A piece of driftwood may look like an unlikely source to use for inspiration for alternative healing, but it has become a quite useful technique for my clients for when they’re being kicked around by life’s travails.
The process involves putting your awareness into your All-Spark. That metaphysical structure is located between the bottom of your heart and the top of your solar plexus. In my cosmology or belief system, it is made of the consistent essence of us that travels from lifetime to lifetime. However, I know that for myself, because of the lessons that I chose to learn this time around, I at first had a great deal of difficulty being even aware of my All-Spark. When that would happen for me, I found that when situations come up where you’re asked to focus on something that is beyond your abilities at the time, then with your intent, ask that you be where or when ever you need to be. The Universe knows much better than you what you need at the time, so don’t fret about being perfectly inside of your All-Spark, or even that you can feel it. Trust that you will be exactly where you need to be and the details will be taken care of for you.
Once you’re inside of the All-Spark as best you can, imagine that you’re inside of a piece of driftwood, floating up and down on the waves. Driftwood doesn’t care about the waves splashing up against it, as it rises and falls as the waves move past it. Practice this State of Being when things aren’t so stressful for you. There’s a relaxing sensation as you get in to feeling like you’re rising and falling with the waves. The reason to practice when things aren’t so bad for you is that so when they are, you just retreat further into the middle of the driftwood. The winds of life can be howling and you can really be tossed around on a dark sea of emotions when something isn’t going well for you, but there you are, safe and secure, riding out the storm deep inside your inner driftwood. This technique is especially useful at 3am when it’s dark outside and you’re all alone. It’s also useful for when someone is so emotional that at that time, words don’t come easily. Just allow yourself to rise and fall, rise and fall, as if you were being rocked in the arms of Universal Love.
I’ve especially found this technique useful for children, as it hasn’t been that long since their bodies remember being rocked. For those who have never seen driftwood, you could adapt the process to being an inner tube riding on the waves, but there’s not that aspect of not caring about being hit by the waves that a piece of driftwood has over other flotation devices. I invite you to come up with your own variations, as all that is really important is slowing down the breath and distracting yourself from any turmoil so that you can naturally allow healing energy to come in.
